Importance of Canadian Women in World War 2
When one thinks of both Canadian males and females in world war 2 they may think men had a bigger historical importance in the war because they were the ones in combat. Although this is true, that men of course did have huge historical importance in the war, women also played a vital part and proved themselves to be equally as important in the history of world war two.
Canadian women contributed to the war effort in many of different ways. Some women helped from home while others ventured across seas to relieve men from their jobs so they could join and help fight in the army. Women really started to make a powerful reputation for themselves during these times.

On the home front there were many ways women did and could contribute to the war effort. Most, but not all, was volunteer work such as promoting the sale of war bonds, sewing, knitting and quilting together/ packing of "Ditty Bags", volunteer for staff training in nurseries, distributing ration cards, and holding fundraisers for the women and troops over seas. Other things that women did on the home front to help contribute to the war effort were rationalize their foods and materials. They wanted to prevent as much waste as they could and give any scrap materials, such as metal, rubber and glass that could be recycled for use in war production. There was also loads of help from daughters and wives of farmers as they took lead in maintaining the agricultural production of wheat, eggs, poultry and other necessary items for getting through the struggle of world war two.
Women also played an important roll over seas. A huge part of it being women who worked in the Canadian Woman's Army Corps, they relieved men from their work so they could fight and took the jobs for themselves. This has a huge importance because the allies needed as many soldiers as they could get while facing the German army. Women also helped over seas while working as nurses and ambulance drivers.
Overall, what the historical importance of canadian women in world war 2 really comes down to is the reputation it gave them. Women started to become taken more seriously and proved they could work just as hard as the men. Their hard work in world was two was a huge turn point for women's rights because they gained self respect and respect from others, even the government, they saw more potential in women than they ever had before.
